A Smile in One Eye is an interesting and compelling depiction of one family’s struggle to survive under Hitler’s persecution of European Jews. It raises such questions as : What does it mean to be Jewish? Is Jewish a religion or a race or an ethnicity? I recommend this book to all readers of history and those interested in family life under extraordinary pressure. It is a great read and a true story.
